So I have been working on two things lately, getting some work on my Team Fortress 2 level done and recording some Dre’s First videos. I just felt like giving an update as to what is going on with these.
Team Fortress 2 level is coming along rather slowly. I hit a speed bump based around working with displacements. I had never worked with displacements much in the Source Engine, or in general really. I watched a few videos but like most things, I couldn’t get a very firm grasp on it until working with it and making my mistakes. With that said I am now doing well at rocking the displacements and getting them to look believable. At this point if you are wondering just what the heck a displacement is, I suggest you click here. This will give you a nice description and basic tutorial if you would like to learn to work with them in the Source Engine.
The other reason things have been going slower is that Sam, my partner for this level creation has had a laptop failure about a week ago but luckily just last night got his brand new desktop up and running. We should be moving back into the swing of things with getting this built.
Now for Dre’s First episodes. I have attempted to record two more so far. I say attempted because the first one, I forgot to hit F10 for Fraps. This means I didn’t record any footage. Go me! The second one, I got interupted mid way through and well, that compeletely jacked up the recording. So when I do finally get Gratuitous Space Battles and Jolly Rover recorded, they wont be true Dre’s First episodes but will be enjoyable none the less.
In other news, I have been looking for an apartment. This is another reason why my progression has been a bit slower. With the next semester around the corner this making things a bit turbulent with funds and time and I hate turbulence. Looking forward to getting my own place though and should make things much easier for me when recording and working on my projects. Fewer distractions will hopefully be a boon to my production levels.
